During our last class of my six-week summer hand building class, we made darted mugs. The darting tapers in at the bottom of the cup; we then then added a small square bottom and a handle if we desired. I squared off the body of my first mug and then I so enjoyed the technique, that I quickly made a second mug to match. I rushed the making of the second one, so it’s slightly wonky, but still cute.
I knew I wanted to use more of my baby blue underglaze transfers but because my clay body is so dark, I painted some white underglaze puffy cloud shapes first. I wanted to try to reference the shapes within the transfers. I really love how the white and blue look with the dark clay. This was such a fun process.
