I started a six week wheel throwing class back in mid-March. It had been almost four years since I had been on the wheel and I felt ready to give it a go again. I was in need of a weekly diversion from work and care taking for my dad. I’ve really welcomed this distraction and I am trying to push through and not give up. I honestly prefer and have more success with hand-building, so I tend to only go so far with the wheel and give up and go back to sculpting. I am making the same shape vessel – small bowl/dish – over and over, but I’m proud of myself for not giving up and continuing to take another throwing class when the first course ended in April.
As a big fan of blues and greens, I’ve only glazed my pieces in blue and green celadons. I’m using a speckled red clay, Laguna Red Rock, and I’m loving those speckles peeking through on the finished pieces.
I have signed up for a six week functional ware hand building class in June, but I do hope to get back to the wheel soon after that. I know that if I keep practicing I can improve on my vessels sizes and shapes. <3
