Well this piece definitely didn’t turn out like I had hoped! I was a bit heart broken <sigh>.
I took a Valentine’s Day themed workshop in early February and we made coiled hearts that could become decorative hanging pieces. I’m not sure if the thickness was different throughout the piece and that caused the crack. I don’t work with coils often and I’ve never made a flat piece out of coils, so I’m just guessing. And honestly it’s often a guessing game when something goes wrong with ceramics. The dryness, the wetness, the thickness, the thinness, are all possibilities – luckily I don’t have too many (fingers crossed) problems with breakage. This one did hurt because I was looking forward to hanging it. <3
