I started some smaller gnomes in the fall of 2022 but due to illnesses (Covid and then strep, ugh) I didn’t have a lot of energy for art making. But I didn’t give up, the gnomes just kinda ended up on the back-burner. I’m always paranoid about my clay projects drying out unexpectedly, so I wrap my pieces tightly in plastic and spray them with water from time to time. I have managed to be able to work on project for months using this method.

I also was able to successfully mix a really nice pink underglaze for my first group of gnomes. Pink can often burn out in the kiln, so I was excited to see the color work out.

I stayed working small for most of these gnomes and I really like how they turned out. I can make more pieces when I work small and I have found that they also sell well. I hope to make more soon and I am considering experimenting with a different clay body.
