Kitty Vase

  • Kitty Vase

I started a six week hand building course back in mid June. I am loving the class and this vase was the piece I made during our first class. We used templates to create cylinders. I used a mug template, but made it a little taller. It is definitely a bit wonky – the classroom was so hot that night and the clay was so wet, that I struggled to keep the form symmetrical and even. I decided to go with the shape and just add some fun illustrations. I started the polka dots first – I just traced around a roll of washi tape and then I was inspired by a journaling and drawing book I have, to add the kitties. I love how the overall drawings are minimalist and fun. I painted with bright underglazes and finished the piece with clear glaze. I really love how it came out – wonkiness and all!
