This spring, I’ve been decorating and glazing all my thrown pots with the same techniques and colors, so I decided to do something a little different with a few pots and do some carving on the outside.
My pots are also on the thicker side, so I figured it would be safe to do the carving and not go through the pot with my tool. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case for all of the bowls – I did carve through one of the three bowls. It was actually my favorite of the three, but that’s ok.
I used celadons to glaze once again, but only used snow and jade layered on the inside of the bowls, and used obsidian and jade on the outside. I wiped back the obsidian so that it would allow the relief work to pop through and applied one coat of jade. Unfortunately the leaf patterned bowl had a small crack in the bottom, so I threw it out. But overall I enjoyed creating and experimenting with these pieces.
