We bought our house in the summer of 2012 and the house has an adorable fenced in small side yard with large trees and some bedding. I really wanted to create an enchanted fairy garden feel. So we decided to start collecting random garden sculptures and I wanted to make some clay pieces to also add to the garden. Early on, I created this random bust of myself, along with masks from different clay bodies with various finishing techniques. These are pretty rough and quick pieces that looking back now I see a lot of problems with the features and the glazing.

In late 2012 and early 2013, I was reading Book #3 A Storm of Swords, from George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series and was completely enamored. I was completely struck by the visual of Arya’s Hall of Faces and wanted to try and replicate the Hall on the walls of the house that faced our side yard. I started out strong but unfortunately lost steam along the way. I still try to go back and create a mask from time to time because I really hate the idea of completely giving up on the project.

A lot of the masks have very similar glazes because I wanted to use glazes that were somewhat translucent and/or that would break and allow patterns or textures to show.
