Turtles are another woodland creature that I have been obsessed with for some time. I’ve always imagined them living amongst the gnomes and faery folk. I started created two dimensional-ish, low relief sculpture turtles about six years ago and then branched out into some three dimensional turtle sculptures.
In 2021, I started creating three dimensional turtles. These turtles were crafted from pinch pots with legs, head, and tail added. I enjoyed experimenting with carving different lines and designs on the shells. My favorite element of these turtles is the celadon glazes I used to finish them. The beautiful extra shiny greens and slight blues and yellows were created by using different combinations and layerings of the celadons.
